This post is in continuation of the previous post on HP Comware BootROM. In this article, I will display the menu options for the Extended BootROM for a HP 5120 Network Switch. This mode can be accessed by pressing CTRL+B while the device is booting and this keypress option is displayed (see below).
This extended BootROM allows downloading files into the devices via FTP, TFTP and XMODEM. Below is an example for FTP selecting Option 1 then Option 2.

This Extended Boot menu allows the option for the device to boot on a different firmware stored in the device. In this case below, we can select another firmware the device can boot on. Below show display output selecting Option 2.

In this Boot Menu, we can list and delete files in the network device. Below shows contents of the device flash. Below shows flash contents when Option 3 is selected.

Password recovery capability is enabled. To perform this operation, first
disable the password recovery capability using the undo password-recovery enable
command in CLI.
In this Boot menu, the network device can be restored to factory default but requires a command not present in the configuration (undo password-recovery enable). See below sample for Option 5.
In this Boot Menu, we can update the BootRom software. Option 6 selection is similar to the Basic BootROM Menu.

In this Boot Menu, we can bypass the startup configuration which is essential for password recovery for the network device. Selecting Option 7 provide this access.

In this Boot Menu, we can configure the startup mode to provide more details when booting. Below is display for Option 9.

There are other options in the Extended Boot Menu and most of them are self explanatory such as Rebooting, Format File System and so forth. I will not discuss them further and leave the reader in exploring these.
